The owners are a forward thinking couple whose goal is to create an energy independent dwelling using wind, solar thermal, photovoltaic panels and wood as a back-up heating source. A rainwater catchment system was also installed connecting all roof surfaces. The house has a large music room over the garage utilizing a unique structural truss system to maximize insulation and natural daylighting. Natural cooling is used throughout. The porches are column free to increase the connection to the landscape. Architectural integration of the various renewable energy systems while giving them full expression was an important objective.
